"How To Get More Business In The Next Month Than You Now Get All Year... And Keep It"

Marketing Strategy #9

Be a Professional

What we mean by this is:

1. Have a clean truck.

2. Have everyone wear uniforms - black pants or shorts with a clean logo polo shirt is fine. A button down shirt is even better. Choose to look professionally uniformed. Example: FedEx, UPS...

3. Everyone should be well groomed. No 2-day stubble or straggly hair.

The public is skeptical about truck drivers and so are many manufacturers & direct shippers.

Let's face it we don't have a very good reputation. The reason is because there are a lot of truck drivers out there who do not look or behave all that great.

We must overcompensate for their bad reputation. Granted this is unfair, but it's the way it IS.

We've seen many trucking companies pick up loads with dirty trucks. We've even seen drivers who didn't have on a uniform at all. They'll have on dirty jeans and an old ripped t-shirt. Their hair a mess and they hadn't shaven in about a week.

You must look clean, neat and be organized. This earns people's trust and respect.

It probably is no surprise to you that the trucking companies above only close about 10% of their prospects.

No one wants someone looking like that to come in to their business.

Clean trucks are also important.

We are not saying you have to have a brand new truck, but we are saying that your company needs to look good.

A clean truck (whenever weather permitting) looks sharp and portrays that you care about your business.

The grooming and cleanliness you portray is very important to the initial "value perception" your clients and prospects receive from you.

Some other tips:

-If you smoke, realize most people today do not. The tobacco smell that you can't help but carry may be offensive to them and be a strike against you.

-Learn as much as you can about the trucking business.

-Read books, listen to educational audio's on the road. Learn proper terminology to use when speaking with your clients. Today there is so much information available on CD, Casette, Audio Book & MP3 format on any subject you would like to learn about the trucking business.

-Make good use of the time on the road to get educated.

-Always be sure to use proper manners and courtesy with your clients and prospects.

-Remember, the image and value you portray, has a direct impact on how much you get paid.

You never know who is looking that may need your services... and is willing to pay for professionalism.
